DescriptionThis sketchbook by Sarah Purser, a tour-de-force in the history of Irish visual art, reveals important insights into her artistic process. Purser, a prominent portrait painter, used this sketchbook for multiple portrait and genre studies. Many of the sketches in this sketchbook depict her close friends and family members. This would have been a common subject for many portrait painters, as, of course, one’s family members and close friends were often readily available to pose.
