Label TextNorah McGuinness was one of many artist-friends of the celebrated Irish architect Michael Scott. She painted this portrait while Scott was convalescing following a heart-attack (from which he made a full recovery). Wearing yellow, silk pyjamas, Scott sits in his room in St Vincent’s Hospital (then at 56 St Stephen’s Green East). His son later recalled that the greyishness of the skin and rather dejected expression capture accurately his father’s physical state and mood at the time.
