DescriptionIn this four colour lithograph the ‘connoisseur’ sits on a high stool, magnifying glass in hand, peering at a drawing being propped up by his ‘assistant’, a chimpanzee. Although sold recently at auction under the title ‘Monkey Business’, it is very likely that this print is the lithograph entitled ‘The Connoisseur’ exhibited at the 1927 Royal Irish Academy exhibition. Although best known for his drawn portraits of notable Irish people, at the outset of his career O’Sullivan was a talented printmaker who experimented with different print techniques.ProvenancePurchased, Adam's Fine Art Auctioneers and Valuers, Dublin, 14 October 2009, Important Irish Art Sale, lot 20Exhibition HistoryRoyal Hibernian Academy, Dublin, 1927
