DescriptionKernoff circulated in Dublin's literary and theatrical worlds, drawing and painting portraits of figures like Flann O'Brien and Brendan Behan, and designing sets and costumes for the Dublin Drama League and the Little Theatre, South William Street. The Gallery holds some of his set designs for Seán O'Casey's The Shadow of a Gunman and The Silver Tassie; Lord Dunsany's The Glittering Gate; and Georg Kaiser's Gas.
This preparatory sketch, with extensive colour notes, was probably intended for a finished watercolour or oil painting.
