DescriptionThis double folio sheet formed part of the monumental atlas Civitates Orbis Terrarum (Cities of the World), which was published by the Cologne based cartographers Braun and Hogenberg in ever larger editions between 1573 and 1617. The multi-volume atlas includes maps of more than 600 towns in the known world. It wasn’t until the sixth and final volume appeared in 1617 that an Irish plate was included. The particular layout of the Latin heading on the reverse of this sheet indicates that it was published in 1618.
