DescriptionThe woodcut technique is ideally suited for producing easily readable black and white images. Using a knife, the artist cuts away the wood to reveal simple shapes that make up a bold graphic image. In this scene from a familiar fairy tale, Andersson cleverly juxtaposes white on black with black on white images to give a quirky edge to the print. This print formed part of a limited edition portfolio issued by the Swedish Fine Art Print Society in 1923. It is part of a collection of 69 prints given to the Gallery by the Society in 2005.Inscriptionlower left (in the image): HA [in monograms]
