DescriptionTurner depicts Wellmich from a viewpoint near St Goar. The ruined fourteenth century fortress of Burg Maus stands on the cliff high above the village. On the verso of this sheet is a pencil sketch of the town of Bacharach, situated upstream of Wellmich on the opposite bank of the Rhine. Bacharach was renowned for the picturesque beauty of its medieval half-timbered houses.
