DescriptionUntil recently this watercolour was known as Great Yarmouth Harbour, Norfolk. New research indicates that this view shows the Belgian coast at Ostend. On Turner's return journey from Venice in 1840 he travelled down the Rhine to Cologne and on to Ostend. Sketches in Turner's 'Wurzburg, Rhine and Ostend' sketchbooks, 1840 (Turner Bequest CCCIII) confirm the location of this image as Ostend Harbour.
