DescriptionOn leaving Venice in August 1840, Turner travelled north through Innsbruck to Passau, where he made several studies of the city. A hazy blue atmosphere, created by the mists rising from the rivers and steam ferries, suffuses the scene. Turner's rich palette and emotional response to the landscape echo the effects he achieved in his Venetian works.
