DescriptionThe style and technique of this watercolour date it to Turner's Swiss tour of 1836. Many of Turner's informal sketches are characterized by vibrant colours; acidic yellow-greens juxtaposed with shocking pinks. Although sketched 'on the spot' this sheet was probably worked up later. A similar watercolour, taken from a different perspective, is in The National Gallery of Scotland's Vaughan Bequest collection.
