DescriptionThe futility of man's strenght when pitted against the might of the sea is graphically illustrated, with ill-fated mariners cast adrift from their capsized vessel. The dark, turbulent sea, propelled by a strong underlying swell, creates surging waves that engulf the hapless crew. The rich colours and wide tonal range enhances the dramatic impact of the scene.Exhibition HistoryTurner in January | Ireland's Vaughan Bequest, National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh, 01 January 2025 - 31 January 2025
