DescriptionIn 1793, following a tour of Kent, Turner made a number of highly finished watercolours of notable buildings in Canterbury. They were worked up in the studio weeks or even months later from pencil sketches made 'on the spot'. This sheet is signed 'Turner' with a distinctive Greek 'e', which may have been Turner's way of distinguishing himself from his contemporaries as he began his career.
