Label TextHercules captured this frightening boar alive, as one of his twelve labours, carrying it back in triumph on his shoulder. Giambologna made a set of six of his labours, however no original survives. Casts were still being made by Ferdinando Tacca and others into the seventeenth century, producing highly prized works. The four in the Milltown Collection had been mounted on Italian marble and were purchased by Joseph Leeson, later 1st Earl of Milltown, when he visited Florence on the Grand Tour.
