Label TextFrank O’Connor, born Michael John O’Donovan, is regarded as a master of the short-story, and was also an eminent translator and writer in Irish. He served on the Board of Directors of the Abbey Theatre (1935-39), where several of his plays were staged. A plaster version of this bust (1957) is held in the Crawford Art Gallery, Cork. This bronze was later cast on commission from the NGI.
