DescriptionBregenz is located on the eastern shore of the Bodensee, which Turner would have known as Lake Constance. Turner passed through the town on his way to Venice in 1840. Although he captures the misty blue appearance of the distant alps accurately, Turner nonetheless made use of artistic license. He shows the sun setting over the lake to the south instead of to the west.
