DescriptionProut built a reputation as a drawing master in London and published several manuals on drawing. Between 1820 and 1846, he painted popular tourist destinations in France, the Rhine Valley, Switzerland, and Venice. His travel paintings sold well and were widely distributed as engravings and lithographs. Recognizable historical monuments often form the backdrop to his scenes of everyday life.
