DescriptionPieter Molyn is regarded as one of the pioneers of landscape art in 17th century Holland. His drawings and paintings were inspired by the landscape around the city of Haarlem where he lived. His use of broken, wavy lines makes his drawings very recognisable. In this sheet the lines give a real sense of the roughness of the terrain. Unlike Cuyp's empty landscapes, Molyn's views always include figures and emphasise man's links to nature. This drawing includes eleven figures and at least two dogs.
