DescriptionThis print forms part of Picasso's Vollard Suite, a series of 100 etchings, commissioned by Ambroise Vollard, the important French publisher. It is Picasso's great exploration of classicism, containing themes which reflected his interests including the Minotaur and Pygmalion (the artist obsessed with his model). This print belongs to the series L'atelier du sculpteur (the sculptor's studio). Between March and May of 1933 Picasso worked obsessively to etch 40 of the plates. The collector Gordon Lambert presented this impression to the Gallery in 1994 to mark his years of service on the Gallery's Board of Governors and Guardians.Inscriptionin the plate: Paris 27 XXXIII
