Label TextDe Vlaminck is thought to have painted this Expressionistic still-life at his farmhouse in the Eure-et-Loir region. He has applied the paint using a dense impasto allowing the colours to overlap and swirl into each other. Although the artist painted many flower-pieces, he mostly depicted dark landscapes with windswept trees and stormy skies. This interior scene is a variation on such landscapes. The flowers and foliage appear to sway before the tumultuous grey background, as though a landscape in miniature.
