DescriptionMuch admired in her lifetime, Cassatt’s prints were acquired by both fellow artists and dealers. For example, almost 100 were discovered in Edgar Degas’s studio after his death. Cassatt’s prints are characterised by a freshness of vision and a spontaneity and point to her mastery of line and perspective. Some of her most tender images are, like this print, drypoints. Small and minimalist, this drypoint conveys the deep emotional intimacy between mother and child. Although she used the Parisian firm of printers Delâtres for larger editions, she pulled smaller sets of impressions herself.
