DescriptionPerry Ogden is a British fashion and documentary photographer based in Dublin. Graffiti is from a series of photographs that Ogden created during the regeneration of Ballymun, a suburb on Dublin’s northside. In 1998, Dublin City Council established a limited company known as Ballymun Regeneration Limited to redevelop and improve the physical, social and economic environment of the area. This photograph by Ogden subtly captures a specific location and moment during a time of great change. This series can be compared to Ogden’s pivotal photographic series ‘Pony Kids’ of 1999. ‘Pony Kids’ focused on a group of children from the travelling community in Dublin. Ogden captured these children who owned and rode ponies, at the Smithfield Market in inner city Dublin. This image is part of a portfolio of 30 photographs published by Zelda Cheatle in 2003 to celebrate 15 years of exhibitions in her London gallery. The artists included in this collection reflect Cheatle’s aim to highlight the work of important twentieth century photographers while at the same time exhibiting and supporting emerging artists. The photographs range from digital prints to silver gelatin prints and cyanotypes.
