DescriptionPradip Malde, a British-American photographer, was born in Tanzania in 1957. Following a period of political unrest in Tanzania in the 1970s, Malde and his family became displaced and fled the country. His childhood experiences led Malde to use photography to address complex and troubling issues. As seen in ‘Absence. Transcendence II’, much of his work considers the experience of loss and how it serves as a catalyst for regeneration.

This image is part of a portfolio of 30 photographs published by Zelda Cheatle in 2003 to celebrate 15 years of exhibitions in her London gallery. The artists included in this collection reflect Cheatle’s aim to highlight the work of important twentieth century photographers while at the same time exhibiting and supporting emerging artists. The photographs range from digital prints to silver gelatin prints and cyanotypes.
