DescriptionAmelia Stein’s series, RHA Portraits 2009, is a study of the members of the Royal Hibernian Academy, which was published as a book in 2009, the year of the opening of the new and refurbished premises of the Royal Hibernian Academy at Ely Place. Made between 2007 and 2009, RHA Portraits 2009 is a series of contemplations on the singularity of the artistic process, one that is equal parts action and reflection. The series underlines Stein’s unique ability to identify the metaphorical potential of objects and her skill in drawing out the character of an individual by expanding the definition of portraiture. Stein’s strategy when approaching this project was to reveal the personality of the artists through facial portraits, images of the artist’s tools, and depictions of the artist’s hands. Here, she depicts the hands of the Irish artist Brett McEntaggart.
