DescriptionBorn in Leipzig, Germany, Lutz Dille first learned photography from his father. During World War II, he served as a reconnaissance photographer, taking panoramic photographs from hot air balloons for the German General Staff. In 1951, he emigrated to Canada with only a few belongings including his Leica IIIf camera. He quickly began to photograph again, this time observing the dichotomy between the upper classes and those who he described as living on the breadline. Dille visited Ireland in 1968 where he photographed farmers, nuns, horsemen and other individuals that have remained unnamed to this day. He spent most of his time in Dublin and Kerry.
