Label TextIn a humble farmhouse interior a father and two sons are having dinner. They are served by what seems to be the mother of the family and her two daughters. The young man in the centre wears fancy attire and carries a money pouch. His slouched posture and uncivilised behaviour — he spits out some wine in the direction of two dogs — reveals his true character. Rijckaert started his career as a landscape painter, but specialised in peasant scenes under the influence of David Teniers. One of the artist’s patrons was Archduke Leopold William, governor of the Spanish Netherlands.
