DescriptionThis watercolour was made for an illustrated edition of the Dutch Protestant martyrology 'Historien der vromer martelaren' (Histories of the pious martyrs) published between 1657 and 1659 in Dordrecht. It was one of over 180 watercolours translated into print form by Jacobus Savery III (1617-1666) for a lavish publication.
