DescriptionIn 1833 this watercolour was engraved by Edward Francis Finden (1791-1857) and appeared as the title-page vignette to the Works of Lord Byron , volume XVII, published by John Murray. Turner's extensive knowldege of the region's scenery enabled him to combine architectural and topographical elements from different locations into one composite vista. It is the only vignette illustration by Turner in the Gallery's collection.
