DescriptionThis freely drawn image of water, land and sky, evokes the windswept coast of rural Sligo. Using swift, gestural marks, the artist captures the openness and light of an inlet sandwiched between glowering clouds, mountain and dark shoreline. Although Mc Sweeney came late to drawing, he once said he ‘bypassed’ it in favour of painting initially, drawing later became an important part of his practice. He sketched constantly, producing dynamic sketches in tandem with expressive oil paintings in saturated colours.
