DescriptionArtist’s Statement: When I made this image I was living in Bray, County Wicklow. I would regularly photograph the life and people of the town. I even briefly had a position as a photographer on the staff of a local newspaper, the Bray People. I also began my teaching career working on adult education evening classes in photography in the town. This image was made during a holy communion ceremony in the church on the Main Street. I had been given permission to photograph the ceremony and with so many people taking photographs of their children in the church it became possible to make this image of a local man deep in prayer.
