DescriptionThis lithograph by Patrick Hickey of an Irish landscape in January reveals the influence of Japanese art on his work. The landscape’s flattened, two-dimensional quality, dabbled with patches of forest trees, reflects the work of Japanese printmakers. The print’s vertical format reinforces this impression. Indeed, the work has the overall appearance of a Japanese snow-filled landscape, rather than an Irish one. The patterns of the forest trees are delicately rendered throughout.
