DescriptionIrish photographer, Edward Quinn lived and worked as a photographer since the 1950s on the Côte d’Azur, which was “Golden Fifties” the playground of the celebrities from the world of show biz, art and business during the “Golden Fifties”. Here, he met and photographed a number of celebrated actors, musicians and visual artists, most notably Pablo Picasso. Inspired by a number of James Joyce’s short stories and novel about Dublin from the Dubliners to A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, Quinn returned to Ireland in the early 1960s and moved through the streets of Dublin in an effort to capture the flavour and atmosphere of the city and its people. Here, he depicts a group of men browsing the outdoor stall of a bookstore in Dublin. The outdoor book stall is a trope that comes up time and time again in photographs of Dublin during the 1960s and can be seen in works by Father Browne and Nevill Johnson.
