Label TextJohn Crome was a member of the Norwich school of landscape artists. He painted Romantic views of the countryside where he lived. In this scene, dark storm clouds give way to clear skies and sunshine. Changing weather effects were of great interest to Crome. He believed in observing and sketching nature closely, at first-hand. Crome’s approach to landscape painting was greatly influenced by the work of John Constable and by seventeenth-century Dutch artists such as Meindert Hobbema.
