Label TextHamilton, a prodigious mathematician, was appointed Andrews Professor of Astronomy at Trinity College, Dublin, at the age of twenty-two. He later became ‘royal astronomer of Ireland’. He studied under Bartholomew Lloyd, of whom Kirk also produced a bust. The sculptures are contemporaneous, but differ in style. While Lloyd, dressed casually, appears rather bohemian, Hamilton is presented in classical garb.
