Label TextThomas Moore wrote many of Ireland’s most popular ballads, including The Minstrel Boy and The Last Rose of Summer, both of which were published in Moore's Irish Melodies. Moore’s lyrics, which deal with themes of love and loss, are romantic in sentiment and underpinned by a strong sense of Nationalism. The sculptor presents Moore as if he were a Roman orator. His 1857 full-length bronze of the poet in contemporary dress stands on College Street, Dublin.
